Candidates

Dallas Aikman

Irrigator, mixed farming

I am a past employee of GMW (finishing in June 2023) and have a significant understanding of most of the internal operations of the business, most notably the GMID delivery infrastructure and control system technology.

I am a mid-sized irrigation customer of ten years, and farm just outside Tatura. I want to represent a younger demographic of irrigators and believe that it is vital that we have sustainable and right-sized infrastructure into the future for the next generation of GMID irrigation farmers.

Graeme Donaldson

Irrigator, cropping

I am a proud fifth-generation farmer who is passionate about growth for our region and promoting opportunities through progressive farming practices, improvements in technology and irrigation. I have hands on experience through running our board acre farming and earth moving business.

My passion for irrigated agriculture and a strong understanding of the challenges faced by farmers in the GMID is what led me to apply for the GMW Customer Committee. Irrigation is integral to our community and its growth and as a young father myself it is my drive to see it continue and strengthened for the next generation.

Peter Hacon

Irrigator, mixed farming

I have been an irrigation farmer for over 40 years. I have been a member of the Victorian Carryover Review Committee and the Modernisation Stakeholders Advisory Committee, as well as 15 years a member of the previous Water Services Committee (14 of those as chair).

The issues involved in our irrigation industry have become increasingly complex. I believe my knowledge of previous GMW policy, improvements, successes and mistakes will be of great benefit to the newer committee members. With my experience onboard, I can ensure past errors are not repeated and previous suggestions are progressed, easing succession for the new Customer Committee.

Ben Nexhip

Irrigator, dairy farming

I want to help GMW and irrigators work together to ensure that systems put in place into the future work in hand with modern irrigation technology.

I’m passionate about water issues in the Murray Darling Basin and am aware of the sometimes negative stigma irrigators can get, especially from the cities. I also feel like innovative irrigators aren’t fully supported by the system that our businesses rely on in terms of adapting to new irrigation technology.

Graeme Oakes

Irrigator, mixed farming

I have successfully operated and modernised what was a 160-cow dairy farm into an efficient irrigation farm through the many changing conditions encountered over the last 35 years. Sourcing and acting on available information is essential.

Previously, I have been involved with the UDV, Target 10 and VFF Northern region water committee.

The Customer Committee advises GMW on its services to customers. I believe I can contribute meaningful input to this essential service to all irrigators.

Gordon Watson

Irrigator, cropping

I grew up on a farm in Lockington during the Millenium Drought and have worked as an electrician in irrigation and water supply.

We are expanding our farming enterprise and want to be part of the conversation regarding water supply in the Central area.
