If your building was destroyed or damaged in the 2026 fires and you require a planning permit to rebuild or replace it, a streamlined process has been established to help progress approvals as efficiently as possible. This process is designed to support fire‑affected landowners by collecting key information about the previous and proposed buildings, including details of any onsite wastewater management system, upfront. By gathering this information early, Goulburn‑Murray Water can, where appropriate, provide a supporting letter for you to submit with your planning permit application to Council, helping to reduce delays during assessment. Much of the information requested will be sourced in collaboration with Council’s Planning and Environmental Health teams, and GMW has worked closely with Councils to develop and implement this approach. Any questions about the application form or required documents should be directed to Council in the first instance.

What happens next?

Once you submit the requested information, it will be reviewed in collaboration with Council’s Planning and Environmental Health teams. Where sufficient information is available and where appropriate, Goulburn‑Murray Water may then be able to provide you with a letter to include with your planning permit application to Council. This letter is intended to support Council’s assessment of your application and help streamline the approval process. You can then lodge your planning permit application with Council in the usual way, including the supporting documentation provided. Council will remain your primary point of contact throughout the assessment of your planning permit.
