More opportunities to have your say on future of pumped districts

21 November 2025

Two community sessions will be held on November 27 to provide customers and interested residents the opportunity to discuss the future of the Nyah and Tresco pumped irrigation districts.

Goulburn-Murray Water (GMW) is developing a Pumped Irrigation Districts Future Services Strategy for the Nyah, Tresco and Woorinen districts, where land and water use has changed significantly over the years.

The districts are also facing challenges associated with aging water infrastructure.

The strategy will cover how each district is considered most likely to progress over the next five to 30 years, and the water infrastructure and service requirements for these future scenarios.

GMW recently hosted a workshop about the strategy which examined what’s next for water in the districts and gathered important information from customers and the community about their needs.

GMW General Manager Strategy and Services Planning Steven Abbott said about 50 people attended that workshop in Swan Hill.

“One of the key messages we heard from that workshop is that community members want to explore the future of the Nyah and Tresco Irrigation Districts in more detail with GMW,” he said.

“We want to make sure these important conversations happen and that’s why we’ve organised these two community sessions.

“Nyah and Tresco in particular have some issues we really need to tackle, including changing water use and infrastructure that is aging and at risk of failure, while Woorinen has had significant investment more recently.”

The sessions will offer Nyah and Tresco communities more opportunities to dig deeper into potential outcomes for their regions as part of the strategy.

GMW staff and consultants Fifteen50 will share technical insights, maps and other information about potential options for water delivery into the future.

The two sessions on November 27 will take place:

  • For the Nyah Irrigation District: Nyah Community Centre, River Street, Nyah, 10am-12pm.
  • For the Tresco Irrigation District: Lake Boga Community Centre, Lallbert Road, Lake Boga, 2pm-4pm.

Individuals can find out more information about the strategy, and register to attend the sessions, on GMW’s dedicated engagement platform:

GMW will also host a follow-up “Options and Solutions” workshop in February 2026 to share further development of the options for the future of the pumped irrigation districts.
